I’ve been copied, again

So I don’t know if many of you knew but about a month and a half ago my website was completely copied by these guys - Quinetetdesigns.com. I tweeted about it and contacted the css gallery they were posted. They removed then and put mine up instead. Then within a hour or so they replaced their website with what is there now. I was glad that was over and happy they took their copy down. This morning I got into work and had an email from a reader of my site. He informed me that this now exists - Ashifnawaz.com. This Ashif is even worse then my first copy cat. He has copied everything, even my copy. He just took my name out and put his in. Other than a section about riding elephants and a lava lamp navigation everything is copied. I think he has the elephant thing commented out though. Whois.net tells me he is from Dhaka, Bangladesh. The other place was from India. Just makes me sick. One, they take work from the US because they work for uber cheep and then on top of that they copy our design, code, and ideas as well. I know that all the people over there aren’t like this but so far my opinion of then isn’t very high. Any thought about what I should do about this copy cat? I do have his email and phone number.

I’m sure he hasn’t done any work for J.Crew, forever21, or levis either. Just take it as a compliment that someone has copied your design. Maybe you should sell the wordpress theme over at themeforest.net. Then you might have loads of people out their with your site but at least you’ll get some cash for it.

One more reason not to trust web outsourcing to india. Who knows if their portfolio is legit.

I’m not going to lie, I’m in love with your design. I take it as some hardcore inspiration. I’ve thought about using similar functions like horizontal scroll and all that but I would never rip off your entire design. When does it go too far as of doing what others have done before?

However, I agree with ^marc above, I would take it as a compliment, and i wouldn’t be flustered, his jQuery doesn’t work and I doubt he will get any clientele from it.

On a more personal note I’m terrified I’m going to lose work from outsourcing in India, I don’t want to be out of a job.

You know…if you have his # and email, I’m sure there’s a way to figure out where he works. (If he works.)

I do have his email and there is a phone number listed under his Whois information. But yea I am kind of over it all at this point.

I think there is a huge difference with taking what someone else has done and using that as inspiration and copying all of it. We all use each other as inspiration even if we don’t recognize we do. We see stuff we like thenwe see how we could change it, tweak it, update it to have our person twist on it. If something sparks a new idea in your head that is inspiration. Taking something and just swapping out some images and copy is not using something as inspiration though. But yea that is my two cents. Rob I have seen you flash 3d nav site somewhere as well. It is a cool idea. Some place that built custom containers or plastics or something has a site very similar. Anyways, thank for reading.

Like the over design of the site…simple and easy to get around. Jus’ a comment about this blog….is it to far to the left margin? In my browser (Firefox/Mac) it is right up against the left edge making it hard to read.
